dose anyone have any info on emporor botias?
the only scientific name I can find is botia sp.; like that helps:/

I'm looking for max adult size, temperment etc.
Loachman any help?

well, after asking on other forums (to no avail either)
I decided to get some.
I went back to the lfs and they only had 3 left; It would seem they are very adept at getting out of tanks and over half the stock were found, dead, on the floor when they opened today.

So I got there last ones and they say they'll never get anymore.

anyways here are some pics (excuse the water marks, cleaning day tomorrow)

wow!beautiful looking fish Paul

I have a horrid feeling, these are not emporor botias at all
I'm now thinking they are Botia hymenophysa (Green Tiger Botia)

anyways all the same, very nice fish. :D

Those aren't Emporor Botias, they are certainly one of a group of species that look very similair, the most commonly imported being Botia Helodes with Botia hymenophysa and Botia berdmorei also included. They do look most like Botia hymenophysa to me. I have kept two of the species and in both cases found them to be extremely aggressive, suited only to a species tank with plenty of caves and cover. You could try them with some larger fish that can defend themselves but that didn't seem to deter mine. :/

thanks Ryan
I do belive that they are botia helodes now.
so far no signs of any aggression, but I will watch like a hawk.

BTW good to have you back. :D

We've just picked up 2 of these. (They look just like yours Paul, with spots on them are around the head)

How are you getting on with yours?

We've just put them in and they have tagged along with the clowns :)

we'll be keeping an eye on them too as they are in our community tank.

I have confirmed (from a loach website) that they are Botia hymenophysa
Banded Loach AKA Green Tiger Botia.

I have only seen dominating signs when feeding, all other times they are as playfull and peacefull as any other botia I own(with the exception of the skunks, the little @*:&* :fun: )

good luck with yours smithrc

Very Nice Fish, but unfortunately I don't know much about them :dunno:
