Hey all you Emperor 400 Bio Wheel filter owners - how much clearance does this filter require between tank and wall? I just ordered one yesterday for the 75 gallon tank that I'm setting up. I've just finished rebuilding the tank stand and want to put it in place and start setting up the tank. I'd like to get the sand in and at least fill it up tomorrow but I need to know how far away from the wall it needs to be. I sure don't want to try and move it after it's filled!

I think I got a fairly good deal on the filter, Petco had them on sale yesterday for $40.49 with free shipping. With tax the total cost was $43.65.

I had originally planned to use the Magnum canister filter that came with the tank but it needs a couple of parts (intake tube and strainer, outlet tube and diffuser). Marineland will sell me the parts, but with shipping it came to $25.44. It also needs a new micron filter ($7.50), new pre-filter sleeve ($4.99 each or $8.50 3/pk) and if I want to add a bio wheel to it another $31.99. So thats like almost $70.00 to get the canister filter where I want it to be. (This filter is also 20 years old.) I can buy a brand new Magnum 350 Pro that includes everything for $99.00 with free shipping!

I'd like to have the canister filter as well as the Emperor eventually, but for now I'm going to start with the Emperor.

you could always hang your filter off the side if it dosnt fit of the back talleyrand...

have you been to the wet spot?
GO OREGON! :D

Thanks Discomafia - that was a great link.

The problem Phantom Thief is that my filter won't be arriving until Thursday and I want to position and set up the tank now. If I put the tank to close to the wall I won't be able to hang the filter on it. I don't want to have to drain a 75 gallon tank so that I can move it a couple of inches.

Also, the tank is a corner unit tank so I only have 2 sides to hang a filter on, I don't think it would look very attractive with the filter hanging on the front of it!

The minimum space you need between the top frame and the wall is 4.75 inches. Closer and opening and closing the lid will be a problem.
