I just bought an emporer 280 today and its kinda making a motory noise, idk if its normal or if i did something wrong when installing it, like the sound isnt LOUD but it sounds kinda like a fan motor cept not as loud....Are these filters supposed to be kinda noisy? or is it just mine, thanks!

Is there water coming out from the filter? I have a Penguin BIO-Wheel and I THINK they have the same general design as the Emperor series (I could very well be wrong). What I would do is take a clean container and use it to pour tank water into the area in the top of the filter where you can see water (its difficult to describe). This starts the filter's intake of water and if it works correctly you should see water start to flow out of the filter into the tank normally. Good luck, and I hope I'm not wrong about the similarity between Penguins and Emperors.

Its working properly and everything. I dont notice the noise now, its there but i got use to it and its fine =)

I have two Emperor 400's on my big tanks, I've been through three. My first purchase had one that was virtually silent and one that was noisy as heck and leaked at the bio-wheel spray bars. I returned the noisy/leaky one then purchased a E400 from a different vendor. This one wasn't as noisy, but still made enough noise to be noticable especially when compared to the first E400.

I tried reseating the impellor(?) a couple of times until I was happy as I was going to get.

Personally, I think many of the parts on the unit are kinda cheap considering the cost of the product.

I have a Penguin as well, zero problems and no noise with that one.
