Hey i just went to Aquarium Design the most reputed store in Glasgow and they told me my PH was off the scale possible a 5 maybe lower. I told them about using bicarbonate of soda and tonic salt and they say the bicarb is a quick fix that only works for a short period.

Anyways they`ve really recommended me this gravel stuff to go on top of my gravel called calcium plus. This is proven to up the ph and is used in saltwater aquiriums a lot and is used for freshwater for more alkaline tanks if u use the whole lot. I`ve been told to add a handful a day for a week and this should make the tanks ph go up to about 7.2/7.4 and again up and up depending on how much i use so i`ll keep u updated on this matter.

I`m also wondering if anyone has used this product before and of their experiences when it came to freshwater conditions.

outofmybin21 you need to buy a test kit. I would recommend the Aquarium Pharmacutecils master test kit. You need to start keeping track of your levels. This includes a PH test kit and tests for the nitrate, nitrite, and Ammonia...
