ll, i have a larger convict cichlid and a smaller one and recently, a dominant fish died, so the bigger convict has been bullying my littler one, ( I have plenty of hiding places mind you ) and today I came home and my little one is at the top of the tank, his tail is slightly torn, he's trying to blend in and I'm not sure what to do, I don't want to lose him,

Not that I'm a Convict expert, but I've experienced similar situations with other species. The only sure way to save him is to separate the two of them. This is nature being natural, survival of the fittest.

Cichlids in top corners of tanks is a classic submissive gesture, your smaller fish wants to give the bigger Convict as much of the tank as it can while still in the water.

Separation or probable death.
