The airstone wont do any harm so you can leave it running, while the filter is still using a lot of the oxygen it will help to increase the surface aggitation so the gas exchanges at the surface are quicker.

There are a lot of comments in this thread about high ammonia levels yet the first post tweety stated that she has no ammonia level or nitrite level in the water. It simply sounds like the angel brought along something nasty from the store and it quickly spread through your tank.

Also arcticfix just an FYI neon rainbows aren't the same as a neon tetra that needs an estabilished tank.

In reply to CFC I think you might like to read this information http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/wchanges.htm
Which is meant to prove what exactly? All it says that all systems benefit greatly from water changes and that the recomended ammount of water to change is 20% fortnightly for a lightly stocked tank which should be increased with heavier stockings.

It has been proved time and time again that the key to successful and happy fish keeping is having a good regular maintainance schedule which includes frequent water changes, how much to change is down to the individual needs of each set up of course since different fish produce different ammounts of waste but 10% a week minimum is a good starting place.

 Well guys, seems like the problem was solved, No need to argue. Everyone has different ways of doing things. They work for some and not for others, we all got different water, different fish, different enviroments. So if something works for someone it doesn't mean it will for another one. They are just suggestions., the description did sound like ammonia levels going way over and it could also have been a nasty disease brought up by the Angels.

Anway Tweety well done  Next time you add fish, try to put them in a quarantine tank for 1 or 2 weeks and come ask if you got problems, which i hope you don't. There are a lot of very helpful guys :flex: out there as you can see.

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd update you. We have had no other fish die, other than the ramining Angel which we put to sleep, and they all seem quite happy doing what they normally do. The water has remained slightly misty but 80% better than before the water change.

I am keeping my eye on the Gouramis to ensure that they play nicely until we are in a position to replace the females.

We will definately be quarantining any future additions for two weeks to make sure everything is well, rather than subject our other fish to something nasty.

My levels are good tonight, ammonia 0, nitrIte 0 and nitrAte 10.

Thanks again for all your help.
