Just need a bit of advice....

I the last 6 days, I've lost:

1 Threadfin Rainbow
2 Platys
1 Neon Tetra
and my favourite, 1 Male Siamese Fighting Fish.

Only the rainbow had any sign of disease - a white growth above his eye. He was the first to go.

I've just tested the water for Amonia (0), Nitrite (0), Nitrate (10) and pH (7) and can't see anything obvious. Temperature is just under 26. Are there any other tests I should be doing or is there any 'general tonic' I can add to my 380l tank? Please bear in mind that I also have Japonia shrimps and kuhlie loaches and I know that they don't like certain medications.

Please help. I want to get to the bottom of this before I lose any more... If any of you guys need more info to help me diagnose the problem, please let me know.

Many thanks.

Just a thought - other people have lost fish recently due to having an automatic air freshner near their tank...

Can you describe the white growth above the eye, was it fluffy in appearance.

Yes, white and fluffy. It was also swollen. It only appeared on the first fatality though. There is no other fish showing obvious signs of it or anything else.

Columnaris.
I would add some myxazin to the tank with losing a few fish.
Or some daily water changes.
Maybe turn temp down by two degrees for a week.

Thanks Wilder. Is it OK to use Myxazin in my tank as I know some of the waterlife stuff can't be used with crustacians (are Japoica shrimps classed as crustacians?)

Otherwise, plan B, and daily water changes - 10%/day for a week????

It's usually the parasite meds more than bacterial.
It wise to have a little hospital tank.

REAL, REAL problems now!!!!!!

I seem to have lost at least a fish a day for the last week, plus 4 today! None, with the exception of a female betta displayed any signs until the bitter end. The betta had a kind of white 'something' around her mouth. It wasn't the same as the 'cotton wool' that the threadfin had. Her eyes were also greyed.

I've moved my fry into a newly set up hospital tank. I have now started a course of Myxazin - day 1 of 5. I had to wait until now for the hospital tank to at least partially cycle - fingers crossed on that one.

Add to the list above a khulie loach, 2 male guppies, a female fighter, a glowlight danio, 2 neon tetras, and a galaxy rasbora.

Tested the water and the levels are no different from the above.

Listen guys, this is really killing me. Can you offer any more help. PLEASE.

With the myxazin add some pimafix you have a bad strain of columnaris in your tank.
Turn temp down by two degrees for now.

Are you positive it is ok to mix the two meds. Most meds say to leave at least 4 days between. Once teh Myxazin course was complete, I was going to add corbon in to my filter to remove it (or have I missed the point of carbon?).

Pimafix is ok to use with myxazin you have a bad strain of columnaris and the myxazin won't work on it's own.
Alot of members use pimafix with myxazin you can even use it with parasite meds.

Wilder, you're the man!

Unfortunately, I haven't any Pimafix. I'll get some in the morning. I'll continue with the Myxazin until I can get some. I take it it's OK to use teh standard doses of both together and that pimafix is ok with shrimps? I forgot to tell you, there's also a dwarf aquatic frog in there (named Bazza) - should I move him to the hospital tank with the fry? I'm putting a very tiny dose of Myxazin in there too (it's only a 15l tank).
