Hi Guys,
I emailed Juwel last week about my broken brace and how to repair or replace the brace...

They have eventually emailed me and I will paste the email,
I just dont follow the last statment where it mentions the need for or not for the brace, ive bolded the last line to highlight, what does that actually mean? the brace is not realy needed? or it is? what is statics?
Thanks again for comments..

Email as Follows:
"many thanks for your mail. I am sorry to hear that you have experienced this problem, which is, of course, not something, you should expect.
First of all, I should like to mention that you do not need to worry. I would recommend to release some of the water from the tank to reduce the strain on the front glass. We will send you tomorrow a new support strap together with the necessary glue.
I hope that you can accept this solution. Having release water from the tank you should not have any problem in fixing them to your satisfaction.
Important: the strut is necessary for the statics only - not for the stability.

Best regards,

Juwel Aquarium Service Team

IM guessing the strut = the brace..

Static usually in this context means none movement.

Statics is the study of forces with no motion, ie your glass walls of the aquarium holding back the force of the water. Add in motion and then its called dynamics. Basically, they are saying, remove some of the tank water, maybe 1/3 to 1/2 to remove pressure of the water pushing on the glass and causing strain on the front/back panes. When they send this strap and glue, prob going to need to place some glue along the joint and then use the strap to wratchet the two panes of glass back to where they should be positioned and then let it set for x amount of hours days (depending on the glue/epoxy and its cure time).

I would actually prob tell them that I want a refund for the tank or to give me a new one with pre-reinforced center brace. This is one thing you don't want failing. What would of happened if this broke the day you left for a trip and was broken with no one knowing for 4-7 days. The reason the brace is there is because the front glass has a certain fatigue life with the load the water will put on it and by releaving some strain with a center brace, the fatigue life increases. I don't know how long the fatigue life of the glass would be with this certain water pressure but I wouldn't wanna let it stand for any appreciable time without that support.

Hi 5teady,
Yup its a brace they mean 4 sure, Ive emailed them to ask what they mean but if it takes as long to answer it will be next week b4 i get a reply..
So what does that mean then? movment in the water or the tank? Im still not following their meaning? Doh!! Blond Moment...

They are german though and was thinking it ment the strut was not realy needed?

Ive got a new one superglued I got from ebay and juwel are sending a free replacment too so at least they responded in the end.

I doubt they would be on the tanks for no reason but wondered if the tanks would hold without one reading what they said?

Thanks again

Thanks Ox

not sure i would be happy at all with this response.. a replacement or refund yes

Hi Shelagh,

I got the tank second hand otherwise id have been jumping around kicking up a song and dance with them so guess im greatfull they are sending me anything or even offering support....

I filled it the other day with the new strut and was Sh%^&&ing myself all the while as it seems a real flimsey brace to put on a big tank and for them to pop off or snap so easily Id want my money back and a different model with a better brace, my 180 is totaly different and much stronger looking and seems to be a part of the collar and not clipped on....

I read all over the net and seems heaps have this problem with certain juwels and the best advise I got was to super glue the replacments on as they are plastic and silicon wont hold...

I may add the spare as a secondary brace when it arrives if it doesnt restrict the arm room to much as I dont have much faitth in them now...Im worried my bairns will be in front of it and it goes again?? God knows what you guys with the bigger 400 and 450's do when this happens

Thanks again for the comments..

Its an age old problem (one of many) with juwel tanks but luckily failure of the brace doesnt appear to be too much of a problem to the glass, i have a Rio 300 which has had no center brace for over 5 years now and although the glass has a visable bow in it it has lasted without breaking for this long (runs off to touch some wood).

I'm always about, sometimes i don't post much but that doesnt mean i haven't been looking in.

Cant you just get a new piece of glass (10ml) or summat cut, it would be very cheap, and silicone that in replcement of the broken one?

The tops of juwel tanks are plastic and so silicone doesnt stick to them, the very best thing to do would be to fool some poor sod into buying your tank and then invest in a better quality make like Rena or Aqua One

ah right, sorry maybe i didnt read it properly then,,, i had a snapped brace on my old 4ft and carried on using it regardless.. dont think i should have ,,but yes in this case they have been ok with you xxx

This was one of my initial plans, but sadly as CFC says the top of the tank has a platic collar and I cant silicon onto plastic...

Id have to chance taking the collar off if it comes off and make a new lid and light fitting too and me and DIY are a bad plan..

You know i used to think Juwel were quality I think I had an easier time with a cheap clear seal tank !!!

Are you still running your 300 CFC ?

Knowing my luck id do this and the new owner would join this forum and start posting asking help with their new Tank failing..
