for anyone that has personal experiance, please no copy
and pastes from other places; belive me I've proberbly
read it anyway.

a quick question...
Gnathonemus petersii do you keep just one or in small groups?
(too much conflicting info out there)

Either alone or in large groups of 5 or more, in smaller groups one fish can become a tirant and make the others lives hell, personally i would go more toward the group than keeping a single fish as they tend to be more outgoing than single fish which can be very shy.

thanks CFC
we have taken one in from a customer at work
and I'm beginning to like him/her.

maybe I'll order some in for stock then I can have a group :hey:

Try to make sure the newer ones are more or less matched in size otherwise they could be bullied by the older one if it is much larger, remember they can reach around 10" when full grown so a group will require a fairly large tank.

I have one, had it for a couple of months already. He eats bloodworms and tubifex worms. Umm my bichir bit it once and it healed pretty fast. Umm i dont think they have the ability to defend themselves becuz there mouths r just a whole for eattin worms.

Keep in mind that all of the Mormyrids are 'weakly electrical' fish and there is some evidence that keeping them in close quarters can result in aggression possibly caused by interference between each of their electrical signals. They do, in general, do reasonably well in groups and will interact with each other (mostly peacefully). I've kept a number of different genera and species of Mormyrids, both singly and in groups, with considerable success.

I want to keep one elephant nose with my angelfish when they move into their 60g home. The elephant nose I was looking at was 8" long. I also was hoping to put some clown loaches in with it.
