Eleocharis Parvulus

Just wondering what is the best way to prune my Eleocharis.

Do you just cut it to the desired length like grass?

I cut it once or twice a month at about a inch, to give some water circulation and it seam to avoid algae even if the carpet is very compact. I am at six month with out having to replant it or algae.
