batteries crossed my mind but i think u would have to have alot,

Howabout solar power or a wind turbine??

Obv not for the tank but its another reason to get it installed n save a lil money over severeal years

Well here in lebanon most of the time no electricity and my fish survived normally.

If it's just for 4 hours I wouldn't worry about it. Keep your filters wet in the aquarium and do a partial wc or move the top of the water a bit and you'll be fine.

Hi there, how about a ups uninteruptible power supply, similar to this one, i would think something along these lines would do the trick

ups

I lost power earlier this month and all i did was covered the tank with blankets to help hold the heat and moved the water every hour or so... fish went about 6 hours with out anything...

Good idea with covering it up. I left that very important part out. Thanks for adding that. :good:

Yeah it was FREEZING in my house and with the blankets on in 6 hours the tank only dropped 2 degrees... not bad.

No, not bad at all!

Yea, here in Michigan as cold as it is (I think a high today of 13F) I don't know how I could forget that. :D

mosy UPs units will only supply power for a few minutes running a filter, nevermind a filter and heater.

what you want is a high capacity 12V battery, like the ones used in caravans, higher A rating the better (83A or so is good, and reasonable) and an inverter from maplin / anywhere else you can find them. should get a good few hours from that setup, and if you only run it for a little bit every so often, to reheat the water a little and circulate it a bit, you could make it last a couple of days if need be.

generator are good for long term, but noisy. wouldnt want one running indoors either, and someone will try to nab it if power's off in a large area for a while.

If you have 6 zebra plecs deal with the noise & get a generator. I have one, it will run a lot more than the tanks. I can run my heat along with tanks, a couple of refrigerators, lights, about 1/3 the total load of the house. One of my upcoming summer projects is to hook up an automotive muffler to my generator, that should quiet it down real good.

If you are running a loud generator during a power outage chain it down, or someone may drag it off.

With zebra plecs, as Tolak said, get a generator. It'll save you money in the long run, especially if your power goes out for longer than 8 hours.

i heard about this thing that actuaaly used a car car battery to give off a small amount of power.cant find it though.here in upstate neew york powers out alot and its usually about -5-20 degrees feirnheit.we have a wood stove and it helps keep everything warm
