can this work? 2 or 3 labs in a 10 gallon? i've a spare and i was wondering if cichlids were an option

Nope - 10 gallon is too small for most cichlids - you may get away with a single pair of Shell Dwellers , Apistogrammas or Julidochromis but you will have to be careful

A 30" wide tank will do, and 36"+ is best
