I was wondering if any of you know anything about Electric Blue Lobster's, my LFS has one and its simply awsome looking, I would like to get it for my 55gallon tank, I plan on trying out Malawi's and figure eight puffers.

any info on electric blue lobsters would be appreciated. thanks

Hi Doohic.

I'm by no means an expert, but I think that would be asking for trouble to put the Lobster and the Puffer together. Either the Puffer will try to eat your Lobster (yum yum), or the lobster would take a chunk out of the puffer while it slept, which could (I'm not certain) release tetraotoxins into the water...nasty stuff...one of the more powerful neurotoxins produced in nature. From what I've been reading, all puffers produce this toxin to a certain degree.

p.s. Figure 8's do better in a BW set up, and I would be leary of putting a Puffer with the Malawi's...If other fish get aggressive with puffers the puffer has a tendency to retaliate with a vengence.

hmm. thanks pufferpack,

I never thought about an attack while sleeping, i knew they would be smart enough to stay away from him, but if there sleeping I guess they arent to aware are they....

I dont know if the size of my tank will make a difference or not. I have a 55 gallon tank, I guess I was hoping there was enough room in there so they wouldnt bump into each other.

As far as the puffer and malawi combo, I will be trying it out and watching closely, if they fight I will end up returning either kind... I just cant figure out if they fight who I actually want to keep :(

I like the puffers because of their odd nature and looks, but there are many types of malawi's that can go together and various colors.. decisions decisions

Ive done some reading and I guess there not really lobsters, but crawfish, or something, they are called alot of things.. lol.. Hopefully some of you others can let me know what you think too. I just want to have some variety in the tank.

keep it commin :p

I just had another thought (rogue brain fart?) If you want the 8's and cichlids as well, check the stats on Kribs...I have seen a few sites that recomend them for BW set ups, and other than at spawning time the Kribs are fairly peaceful and shouldn't bother the puffers :p

Good article on Kribs here: The Aquarians
and here:Petfish

and here: Fresh Aquarium

From Aquaria Central:
These small cichlids are characteristic of the slightly-brackish deltas and low lying streams of West Africa. They occur in fresh as well as slightly brackish water, and adapt well to most water conditions provided extremes of pH and hardness are avoided.

thanks for the feedback, I checked them out.

here is a cool site for anyone intrested in more puffers

puffers

im also thinking about a tetraodon shoutedeni, the article says they have a peaceful temper except at breeding time.

I just hate the idea of getting too obsessed with this hobby and having 50 tankes cause the fish/crustations I like arent compatible

(I already have an extra one for my albino african clawed frog)

thanks, keep it comming

I've heard that the crawfish will sometimes attack small fish so that's why I never got one, but if your pretty handy and into the lobsters and stuff you should check out supermans pics of his little set up he made for a salamandor or something, it's pretty neat and if you have a bunch of tanks you may want to experiment with one B)

i got a blue/grey filter shimp...

he's about 3in long and like a mini lobster! quite cool and harmless....comes out when its dark mainly.

maybe worth a thought? their not cheap though. i paid £10 for mine.

thanks, I'll check out those shrimp, you dont happen to have a picture do you?

yeah... I didnt think about supermans method, unfortuantly my tank is already all set up.. but in the future that is def a posibility.
