Hey I’m going to stock my 70 gallon tank with one electric blue acara, a larger shoaling fish and I was 2 geophagus species.

Could anyone recommend the best geophagus paring I could put in this tank that would work and be peaceful.
Thank you

Geophagus are generally peaceful, but you don't want 2 males. They aren't the easiest fish to sex, either.

What size of Geo do you want, what's your water hardness and what temps are planned for?

Temp wise it’s going to be around 24° Celsius and preferably a geo that maxes out around 5-6 inches that can live with a singular electric blue acara

24 is low for most Geos, who thrive at 26-27. You might want to look at ones like your original interest, or a Gymnogeophagus since they come from farther south, moving to more temperate climates. I expect with UK energy prices, they should be more popular soon. We don't see a lot of them in North America, and a lot depends on what you can get there.

Thanks for your help, will 2 geo gold dusts be ok with one blue acara? I’ve heard more then one blue acara could be a nightmare so been told to stick with one and then 2 geo
Would this be ok

Maybe....

Two males, no. A pair or 2 females, yes. But in the group the gold dust form seems to come from (they don't use that name here and I am going from googled images), things have been calm. I have kept steindachneri and an undescribed one. Research well as some of those Geos can get quite large. The standard red hump steindachneri stays small, but there is a whole complex of related species of all sizes.

Could I keep 2 steindachneri with one acara? And if so what other tank mates could you suggest with those?

I think you could. Geos have their individual ways, but they would probably work out. It's never 100%.

The electric blue could also surprise. They are generally passive, but...

Will the blue acara be ok on his own? I’ve been suggested it should be alone

Would 2 gel gold dusts be ok with one blue acara in a 250l tank?
