Electric Blue Acara Growth

Hello everyone, I’m new here but have a EBA who i got from our aquarium store in late December. He/She was young so assuming less than a year old still... He/She is growing and I’ve had no issues. (Fish name is blue) Tank temp is normal and same with levels on everything. I noticed today blue has a long thing hanging from the bottom of back belly... toward the back fin. Tried to get some pics but was a bit hard. Wondering if it’s poop because it dropped now and isnt hanging from blue anymore but it hung there for a good minute ... any help is appreciated. Also temperament is normal and blue isn’t acting sick or anything. No tank mates. Just blue. Wondering if i should add another EBA (sorry if this is in the wrong forum) I’m new here lol

Blue might be a little constipated. You might try feeding daphnia or a couple blanched peas once a week.

Thank you! It’s a 40 gallon tank , should it be bigger ?

It looks like poop to me. I would feed a small piece of pea and see if that helps.

What are the dimensions of the 40 gallon tank? 40 gallons sounds like it should be just great for a pair! Yours loooooooks like it may be a male, as far as I can tell, but I am not entirely sure, I’m not that good at telling yet (i have one of my own)
