Hi guys,

Recently grabbed 5 juvenile EBA’s (looking to eventually go down to 1/2) as they get older, pair off etc. Out of the 5, it is very clear that 2 are getting on much better. They have grown much larger than the others, are a much brighter blue, more confident. However 1 of these 2 is a bit of a weird shape; and has been since I got them. He/she is kind of bottom heavy, and when they swim they kind of point downwards, (like a helicopter moving forward.)

My question is, is there anything I need to do/be concerned about or is this fish likely to live a happy, healthy life, just looking a bit different?

Thanks

Hmm interesting one, it looks like it is a birth defect, not sure if its a swim bladder thing or a spine thing. Spine things usually droop the tail down.

Is it just the picture or is there less colour in the back half of the body too?

Not so “discoloured” towards the back in person; not a great photo tbh.

It does seem like a sort of swim bladder thing in the way it swims but I find it odd that he/she seems to be doing so well in terms of growth, colour etc. Especially in comparison to some of the weaker ones.

I’ll keep an eye for the time being

Thanks :)

Video of the fish swimming?
Hold camera horizontally (not vertically) when filming so the footage fills the entire screen. Upload video to YouTube, then copy & paste link here.

Does the fish on the left have a filament coming off its tail?

One of the fish looks skinny and has big eyes. Need more pictures showing them from the side.

They are probably deformed because of inbreeding and you should try to find unrelated stock to breed from.

I won’t be able to get a video tonight.

Both these pictures are of the same fish. The fish on the left of the second picture is in perfect health. I was more concerned about the other one.

It eats and acts normal and has put on lots of size and colour. I am not interested in breeding, just curious if there’s anything I should do?
