Ive chosen fx5 because its powerful and i like fluval.....i know its more pricey but getting £80 as a bday present so not much to find and oh well what the hell....sidetracked....sorry........
i love fluval but have heard that the ehiems better because
"Eheim 2026 handles more nitrogen, and will last much longer"

both are very good, i think eheim, its a little cheaper+its very good

eheim are more expensive than fluval I would alway go with fluval i run 2 fx5`s on my 412g.

Sorry guys, I've had both makes in the past and for reliability and range of spares I'm an Eheim man.

the eheim isnt more expensive then the fluval look at the link, outofstock wasnt this morning 8), i guess your best bet is the fluval then

I was QUITE sure it was still in stock when i posted, this is just the online shop, it doesn't change my decision of choosing the right filter which have still not been decided yet. Eheim is definately more popular and reliable, but since the 05 series is new, I was willing to give it a try, but a 405 costs more then a Eheim so that got me thinking again, i don't think a 305 is enough for the 55 gallon, I mean if a 305 and a 405 can make a significant difference, chances are, I'd pay the extra $50 and go for the 405.....and if the Eheim is even better then the 405...with a cheaper price then i am definately going for the eheim.

:good:

Most fluval owners probably haven't owned an eheim. Where as most Eheim owners have probably owned a fluval, which is why they are now Eheim owners.

Very well said

Nope I have has both eheims and fluvals and still run fluvals I run 2 fx5`s on my 412g with 2 internal eheims. I wouldnt use fluval internals anymore but the new 05 and fx5 has absolutely no faults and are excellent pieces of kit.

OK I will concede that much, the fx5 so far (although it hasn't really been going for long enough for worthwhile reviews to come to light) would appear to be a decent bit of kit...I have had discussions from people who are very satisfied with their fx5. However that is the only filter in the Fluval range which I would say is exempt from my original statement.

I can get a Eheim Pro II 2026 for $240 and a Fluval 405 for $190

Which should I get? Is the Eheim really worth the $60 for a 55 Gallon tank?

we have had this debate countless times theres actually a poll on it somewhere in the hardware section and eheim won hands down and rightly so!!

i have a fluval fx5 and it is now broke for the second time while an eheim i have that is 6 years old is still going and never had a spare part! i think that tells its own story really

the question now becomes wheather the Eheim Pro II 2026 is worth the extra $60
