Hi All,

Went to feed the fish yesterday and in the process touched the water and got a little tingling in my finger through a bit of broken skin... Nothing major, but definately electric. Eventually traced it to the heater part of my thermofilter 2324... haven't got round to taking it apart to have a look yet though. Just wondering if anybody else has had a similar problem...

Dave.

Hi Davver,

I know that when I was researching the possibility of using a thermo version of the eheim I discovered that the regional distributors had a lot of concern about no salt being used in the aquarium. They emphasized that they would not honor the warrantee if one used salt in any amount.

I believe there also may have been mention that the concern had to do with salt causing problems with the working or accuracy of the thermostat device but I suppose it is conceivable that salt might also somehow cause some mild short-circuiting. Can't salt water conduct electricity better than fresh? This is pure conjecture on my part.

Good luck and let us know... ~~waterdrop~~

Pure water is not a conductor. It's all the disolved minerals, including salt, that allow electricity to pass thru water.

My water is not pure... Nor is it salty...

Anyway... just waiting for new filter (free from PFK subscription) to turn up and settle in, then I can pull the eheim apart and have a look.

I think I need a PFK sub if they give you a 2324 :)
and yea, it was the salt I was thinking about, being conductive, not the water... wonder if it varies a lot with different dissolved substances? guess it would, depending on their nature

(wish PFK listed their rates in dollars for US, (our economy ship is sinking so fast I won't be able to afford it soon))
