Well I bought my Eheim 2213,and am in the middle of setting it up .Ihave just relised the instructions dont say where to place the two taps.Dont laugh :*) not used to setting up filters, specialy when its not in the booklet.
Any advice gratfully atcepted.

I have mine set 6 inches from the canister on both inlet and outlet hoses but you can put them where ever you find it most comfortable to disconect them for filter maintainance.
I have seen some people set them just below where the inlet and outlet pipes enter the tank so that the hoses are easier to remove for cleaning.

Thanks CFC,taps are now on!.Another question if you dont mind, what is the best way to Prime it.Just drunk half the tank full.

I always use the old fashioned mouth method to get the syphon going, i've got it odwn to an art form now and its just quicker but if you have trouble doing it that way then disconnect the inlet tube (the thicker one) from the canister and turn the tap to closed, then submerge the entire hose in the tank until it is completely full of water with no air bubbles. Now for the tricky bit, place your thumb over the free end of the hose (the one without the tap) and reconect the hose to the canister (it helps if someone can hold their thumb over the free end for you), then ensuring the free end is still submerged open the taps and the water should start to syphon into the canister. Once the water starts to appear in the outlet hose (thinner hose) plug the filter into the power and if all has gone well it should start running perfectly.

Thanks CFC I will give it a go.Both my tubes are the same thickness though ,I havent got a thinner one.

Ok, i have the 2215 and 2217 models and they both have thicker inlets and thinner returns so i thought the 2213 was the same design.

No, the 2213s have the same hose for input / output, but the method you said is the way I do it and it works well for me.

Thank you both for your help.Havent got it going yet ,because I got a bit cross with it ,so i am chilling out for a while

I had another look a the filter and relised I was sucking on the wrong tube.Isucked on theoutlet tube,no wonder Iwas having a drink :*)
In the end I undid the tube coming up from the top of the filter and gave it a good suck, then reatached the tube and bingo!!!!
The filter is humming a bit is this normal? Also what direction does everyone their aim the outlet water.Any preferances up , down , straight ahead,.and are you Vertical or horizintal. :)

Mine hums very quietly all the time, but not enough for you to notice unless the room is completely silent and you are listening out for it. Anything noticable is more likely to be cuased by air bubbles in the impellor which will either clear of their own accord, or you could re-prime the filter.

I have a 2217 & its completely silent in fact if you did not see the water coming out of the spray bar you would think its not working! LOL
