Anyone got experience with the Eheim 2078, the Pro 3 electronic version?
It's probably a bit overkill for my tank but the fact that the flow-rate is adjustable appeals to me.
Reviews on it are few and far between and not very informative.
Any comments on it's usability and noise level would be appreciated.

well for one

they are not 2080

they are
pro3e 2076 900 lph
pro3e 2078 1850 lph

i dont know to much about the 2076 as i dont have one

the 2080 is the big boy eheim 13 liters of media and 1700 lph not electronic
the 2078 is the next bigest pro3e 8 liters of media and 1850 lph is electronic

if its a big filter you need with heater the 2180 is a themo version of the 2080 not sure if this is electronic

i dont use much of the electronic stuff on my 2078 i just run it flat out but it does have some good stuff wave maker 12hr cycle service indecator

Thank you
Too many numbers whizzing through my head.
I have edited the original post to correct the error.

tigermoth2,

T1KARMANN was one of the members who encouraged me to consider an eheim during my long search for a cannister filter. I only have a small tank and so had to find one of the much smaller eheim models but in the end, so far, his advice was very good. I of course don't have a long period of experience with it yet but it has been simple, rock-solid in running and so quiet that I can only use visuals to tell if it is on. There is no hint of sound or vibration, just water movement. Mine is a Pro-1 model with no heating or fancy electronics but I'm sure those would be fun to have, despite the slight risk they would need more repairs over time. Good luck and let us know how your research goes.

Even more impressive than electronically adjustable flow rate (aka motor slows down, not any hack around pychically closing up the out put), is that it will compensate up to 700 l/h to maintain a fixed flow. Hoses get dirtier it speeds ip the motor, when the motor get's maxed out it leave a warning yellow led on telling you you need to clean the hoses or check prefilter. Press a button it will blink counting down the green leds to show you how many months before cleaning the media/canister is required. You can set diffrent flow rates in 12 hr cycles, so 700 for night and 400 per day.

Electronics and canister filters= :good:

It's louder than a Pro 2 (when 2078 is at max) but I cannot hear mine unless i'm within half a meter. Pro 2 pumps 1000 l/h 2078 pumps 1850l/h so the loudness has more to do with it pushing 85% more water. It's still quiter than my old Fluval 305 and about the same as my eheim classic 2215.

Thanks for the responses. Decision made. Will add a new post about this after birthday has passed!

Oh, and tigermoth, since Bastables has posted let me also mention that he also went above and beyond the call of duty giving me great tech info when I was figuring out my eheim stuff. Thanks again Bastables! My little 2222 running like a charm - the official white and blue pads shipped in so fast I never had to use that temp stuff I got. ~~waterdrop~~
