Eheim Pro3 Filter

Hi, I am looking into replacing my old fluval 305 filter with a eheim pro3 250 litre (2071) filter and have been reading some old post on here about leaks. I have also read that it has been rectified now. My tank is 240 litre with fresh water. Now that this model has been around a few years and hopefully all of its teething problems sorted , what is the general conception of this filter ?

Can I ask what is wrong with the 305? Is not not working properly?

Yes it is fine , but giving it to a friend , I just want a upgrade with less maintenance

Believe it was the older models where waste/sand would accumulate in the pump head under the primer.
If your gonna buy new then get it from a retailer that turns over its stock rather than one that may have been sitting on the shelf. There may be a way to work out the manufacture date from the serial number

thats easey.
firstly the Eheim will run more flow than the fluval, probably about 30% more.
secondly, if you use Eheim media, its far more efficient. both for flow rate and bio filtration.
finally the Eheims will, probably, last for 20 years, at least!
there is a reason people view Eheim as the best. thats because on balance, they are!!!
 
@OP:
personally I'd look for two Pro 2 2028's they would be SH and it may cost a penny or two for any media you need. but you weill be able to foget them.
apart from a 6-9 month cleaning cycle.
or a single PRO3 2080 will do the trick very well.
 
I'm far from sure Eheim have sorted the problems with the new PRO 3 filters. (after all it took several years to get the 2080 to the point where it was peerless in high flow filters.).
