hi i have 2 eheim pro III 2080 external filters on my 7 foot tank but the other day 1 of them just stopped working, yesterday i opened it up, gave it a good clean and put it back together, and it started working fine, this morning it has completely stopped again. i'll give it another fettle now but im no filter maintenance engineer lol

any ideas guys? i have never run eheims before these so am not experienced with them. i have only run fluvals until now and could take them apart and put them together perfectly and identify any problems (not that there ever was any!)
i got told eheims were better, its not looking too good in my opinion!

any help or ideas from experience or just your thoughts will be gratefully received!

When its plugged in is there any noise at all or is completely dead?

obviously check to see if there is anything obstructing the impellor, and check to see that the impellor has cracked or split
turn on the filter when you have the top off and see if the impellor is catching or if the motor is cutting out,

Possibly one of either the motor or impellor is on its way out

well when i took it apart the first time, and then cleaned and re-assembled it, it was working fine, but with a bit of a humming noise, i left it running then in the morning it had stopped completely. yesterday i took it completely apart, every little bit, cleaned all, inspected for anything that could be described as damaged or worn, but nothing looked out of the ordinary, i re-lubed all the moving parts with the supplied eheim lubricant, gave the impeller , which looked in perfect nick, a good clean along with the impeller housing, which also looked fine. all in all it looked brand new after a wipe down. leading me to think the worse, something inside the totally sealed electrical motor unit was faulty, i don't know how long these things are meant to last but these two are barely 18 months old, i won't be the happiest of chaps if im going to have to replace the motor in one of them already, if that is even possible??
i havent turned it on since i gave it another clean yesterday, as it has to be empty to start priming and i went out right after i put it all back together, will see what happens in a minute when i do it, hope it goes well.
can't afford another filter like this, think they are nearly £400 each, so it will probably be game over if this filter is knackered!

if its only 18months old surely it should still be under warranty? in which case send it back to eheim.
