Hi,
I have managed to get a eheim 2222 pro off ebay for £25. It does not come with any pipes but has got everything else inc new media.

My question is I have been looking at the intake and outlet pipes but am unsure as to how I would connect them to the other pipes coming from the filter.

Sorry if this sounds daft but im new to external filters.

Regards
Mike

so it didnt come with the hoses?
you can usually buy the hoses from your LFS by the foot. just match the ID of the hose, to the size of the filter barb. then you can fashion an intake pipe and spray bar out of PVC or CPVC. its very cheap from the hardware store, and easy to assemble.

Whats the ID number on ebay? Just want to take a look and be nosey ;)

Yeh i can get all the hoses but on the website im getting them from they have prebent inlet and outlet pipes, but was just wondering what I would need to join the two pipes together.

do you have a link? im a little confused as to what youre talking about.
you can always use hose barbs and PVC. its pretty easy to do

i see.
if you insist on going with those prebent pipes. it should connect directly to the hoses. you may need to heat the end of the hoses to loosen it a little bit, but beyond that, it should slip on to the end of the pipe.

I assume you just clamp it after that you have slid it over, to hold it in place.

What is the best way to do it, without using the prebent hoses?

Mike

you can use hose clamps, but if the fit is tight you may not need to . it really depends on the diameter of the hose and pipe. i have done diy projects where i attached hose to pipe and did not need to use hose clamps.

Is the standard pipe easy enough to bend without kinking, so I could in effect buy 3m of 12mm pipe and just use that without any joins?

Mike

you could probably heat and slowly bend the pipe, but you can just buy 90 degree elbows from the hardware store. anytime you bend a pipe you risk kinking, pinching, or wearing the pipe too think, making it easily breakable.

if the pipes and elbows are the same size they should just join together. then you can use pvc glue or just use aquarium silicon to seal it.

Right so I need to join and seal it?

Mike

Sorry one more thing, all the pipes I can see are sizes 9/12 or 12/16mm what one do I need?

i the fit is tight youmay not need to seal it. but it would be best to add silicon just incase.
as for the pipe. it would depend on the diameter of the hose coming off the canister. you want the pipe to be the same size as the hose or slightly bigger.
