Anyone have any experience of these? I've seen the 2213 Plus pretty cheap which would be ideal for my new size tank, but just wondered if there cheap for a reason.

Cheers

IME Eheim classic filters (2213, 2215, 2217) are the best filters to use, from new they come with everything you need to get started including media and they are coming down in price only due to the newer Eheim models now on the market, like the professional series. Go for the largest size you can afford.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I've seen the 2213 Plus which will handle up to 250L (my tank is 160) for ~£50. I've read that it comes with inline taps which make it easier when cleaning, plus it's supplied with media.

:good:

they are a decent no frills filter. they dont have seperate baskets for each media type like most other externals so when doing maintenance its a bit more tricky and time consuming. they are good filters but i could never get my 2215 to stay quiet even after all the trapped air was out of the canister  so i replaced it after 4 months with a rena xp3. they are great value for money but i would possibly stretch a bit further for a rena. also the eheim classic series only come with sponges like most filters. if you look about on the net there are some great deals about :good:

Yep they come with double taps, which you need to do maintenance on the filters, just turn the taps off and unhook them. A 2213 should be fine for your tank so long as its not heavily stocked, if it is, I would go for the 2215, you can never have too much filtration.

Not sure where you are looking to purchase from, however, I can recommend, Warehouse Aquatics (google it), great fast service and usually the cheapest prices online.

Well, I took your advice and just ordered this:-

Cant wait to get my new tank set up now!

:good:

this is where i got mine from a while ago. just to let you know the filter will come with sponges only. i rang them up after recieving the filter stating the advert said it contained media and they sent me 2 packs of eheim media free after :hey:
they said it use to come with media and the advert was old but as it stated it came with it they stuck to their word and sent me the free media :good:

Oh well, hopefully I wont have to give them a call.

I was thinking, as I heard they're pretty universal in which sponges they can take, could I put the sponges (full of bacteria) from my Juwel filter into that, and speed up the cycling process?

Or have I completely misread something on the net (again).

:good:

Are you changing the fish over to the larger tank?

If you are, you don't need to cycle; just move the sponges when you move the fish.

what size is your juwel filter? i had a standard when i had an eheim, and it fit the standard juwel sponges nicely, then i filled in the gaps with new sponge and ceramic filter media :good:
