Eheim Filter Hoses..

My eheim prof II 2026 has been up and running for about a month now, and i have noticed that the inside of the green hoses looks quite dirty..

Do i take it that this is normal?

and

Does this build up so much that it impedes the performance of the filter over time? if so, what do you do to ensure this is not the place. Do people replace the hoses?

You can buy long pipe cleaner type brushes for just this job, Not sure on price though but not too much if I remember correctly.

It's normal, but it is good to clear the things occasionally. It's geting biological waste out of the system, which is always good, and will help keep the water clear.

Most hoses will probably be quite long, so you will need:

Hose cleaner
long piece of Strong fishing line/piece of string
thin heavy weight.

Tie the brush to the piece of line/string. Tie the weight to the other end.

Drop the weight down the tube, give it a damn good shale, and the string will fall out of the bottom. Then you can pull the brush through.

The goo that comes out is frankly nasty, it's usually a browny green colour, so best not to do it on the OH's best bit of furtniture!

I clean my hoses about once a year, or when the flow is noticably restricted. What i do is attach the hoses onto the end of my garden hose and then turn it on full blast to force all the gunk out.
