look a good price to me, and with the eheim name can I go wrong? I was looking at a 1250 but these seem to get the job done for cheaper and with an ajustable flow.

any experience people..?

Well, Eheim makes a fantastic product so reliability and quality are not an issue here. My question for you is, what do you want to accomplish with this pump? There may be better suited pumps to the task ;)

sump return, I was set on a 1250 then I saw this that was about half the price and has an adjustable output. I wouldn't need to T off the output to match the drain if I got this instead.

:)

Well, even the compact 1000 only has 295gph at 6.6ft of head. Thats too under-performing for a sump return. Water will just trickle out the top by the time its lifted up. Those compact pumps are more used for reactors, not sump pumps :). Go with the 1250 :good:

I've been testing the sump with a small drain and just a canister for the return, i'd guess it's only moving ~300lph.

One thing I've found is that it seems difficult to maintain a perfect level in the display, I have a line that I always top up to and now I've added the sump it seems every evening I have to alter the speed of the drain slightly so as the water isn't slowly going up/down in the display.

I guess it could be because it's a canister and if the carbon bag moves inside that'll affect the flow a bit etc..? will the output be more stable with a pump?

Yeah, much more stable with a pump. However, you mention that you're adjusting the drain? -_-. What kind of drain are you using? You should have an on-demand gravity drain of some type for the safest operation. The drain should never be controlled, only the sump return.

yeah I know but the canister can't move enough water for the drain so I had to put a tap on the bottom. The pump is going to be more than enough for it so I can make adjustments when I get it.

At the mo I'm just happy to have the skimmer and heater in the sump it make things look a _lot_ cleaner :)

I'll be getting some cash on tuesday so I can look at a proper overflow and pump then
