Sorry, I know this is probably a really stupid question but I have just bought one of these filters for our goldfish tank because it was greatly reduced. I have only had fluvals before and am not too sure what to do with the double taps.
I have looked at the instructions and can see I attach the hose either side of the taps but how much do I have either side? In the middle, near the bottom?
Also, the filter has sponges. Do I need to get a media basket because I want to transfer the bio balls from the Fluval or can I just put them in between a couple of the sponges?
Sorry if these questions are really obvious, I did do a search. Not usually so helpless.

i think the instructions say the there should be 4-5" of hose between the taps and cannister
i would put the balls in a pair of tights inbetween the sponges near the bottom

OK first question where was it greatly reduced, lol

I am looking to get one myself and reckon I could get it for about £65 if you know somewhere better let me know.

Sorry for being cheeky.

Anyway with the taps it doesn't really matter it is for your own convenience where it is most assessable. Personally on my 2213 the taps are quite far away from the filter. Because I never got around to properly trimming the house when I fitted the two taps and external filter. However, it is probably best to have them pretty close to the canister so the canister can be easily disconnected and removed for cleaning.

A to the media just layer it as normal. I would definitely advise not putting them in tights as this will take away the point of layered filtration the tights will catch even the smallest gunk and very little will go near the balls. If you really wanted I thin you can purchase media baskets for them but I might be wrong.

If you got the media with the filter just layer it as shown in the third page in this link. ( will probably already have the booklet but just in case)

If you don't have the media kit them you will have to improvise with what you have got. But there is no need for media baskets, just bung it all in,lol

Thanks so much for your help, I am going to set it up today. :good:
I paid £65 for it but that was greatly reduced in our LFS! Am looking forward to having a decent filter, don't rate the Fluvals at all.

Agree with shrimply, i prefer to have my taps near the cannister as it is easier to dismantle for maintainance, I love this filter, nice and powerful, basic and easy, does a great job. i just put my media inbetween the sponges with the fine sponge at top. That is a good price.
