Not sure what filter to go for...

The Eheim Classic 2213 which i can get with all media included for £48.99.

The new Eheim Ecco 2233 with all media for £62.99

I'm unsure because i've heard the classics are quieter and perform better filtration than the new Ecco. But the Ecco are easier to clean.

Whats the best choice?

Paul.

I'd always go with a classic over an ecco. Just my humble opinion though. :)

as I run both classic and ecco
I have to say that ecco is by far the better choice

for noise they are both the same (ie quiet)
but for ease of cleaning and accessibilty and the fact eccos
are self priming it wins hands down.

I have found the build quality of the Ecco range, (a cheaper range introduced to compete with certain rivals), to be sub-optimal. They may have a few design advantages, but will they still be going in 20 years time like some of my Classics?

I'd take the Classic.

The classic is better, the ecco is easier. Go with you're own preference.

Remember that the 2233 (sponge media only) has been replaced with the 2234 (combo media).
I recently thought about going for the 2234 but in the end decided to go for the Professional 2224 - which I got with all media inclusive £90. The cheapest 2234 I could find was £62.99 (excluding postage) so decided to make the jump for the extra £25 odd to the 2224.

I spoke to the lfs in GREAT length about which to go for (Classic, Ecco or Pro) and in the end decided to go for Pro. But from what I understand, the Ecco is far easier to use than the Classic.

Also, when you check out prices, make sure you know if it comes fully inclusive of ALL media and pipe work.

Ps: Also, the flowrate on the classic versus the Ecco is stronger - so if you have a planted tank you are also slightly better off on the Ecco.
