Eheim 2229 , Filter Problem

hey every1 im new to all this but in need of some serious advice and help on my eheim 2229 wet/dry , i recently purchased this second hand with apparently no probs, i have set the filter up to exactly how eheim reccomend, and all it does is empty the water out of the cannister really really quick through the spray bar then the plunger goes down and just stays there at the bottom , all there is, is a constant trickle permantley out of spray bar but canister doesnt fill up again... many thanks

did you fill up the inlet pipe at all, sounds like it is just sucking in a bit of water and mostly air to me...

yes sucked through the breather pipe is this correct ? and it filled canister right up then emptyed and stayed as above ?
