Hi all,

I have recently bought an Eheim 2227 wet n dry filter off ebay and have had it running for a few days now. I have noticed a small layer of debree starting to build up in my spray bar. I dont have a pre-filter on the bottom of my intake tube (as it didn't come with one) and was wondering, are these essential? The manual states that you can only put filter media in the two internal compartments and can not use filter pads etc. I know that all that media will take care of all the ammonia etc from the water, but what about all of the bits of crap? The media won't stop it all as bits will get through it - as they seem to be doing now. Surley it can't all be stoped by the pre-filter... will it not fall back in to the tank when i turn it off at feeding time and the suction stops?

There are variuus types of Eheim filter media/sponges and filter pads, try using fine filter pads as your top layer in the chamber just below the top lattice screen

Ok, so I have just read some of the realted topics which showed up when i posted this and now realise that it is a biological filter only  (should have done more home work). Does the pre-filter not get cloged regularly?

So should I put them on top of the media in the top compartment or replace it?
