Hi,

I have a new Eheim 2215 and just wanted a quick idiot-guide to getting it going for the first time. I'm ok with everything (i.e. setting up the cansiter)but am a little unsure about the double taps. Can someone advise as how to get the filter working for the first time with both in and out pipes having taps on them. Is it as simple as creating a siphon, waiting for the canister to fill up and then switching on the filter at the mains? I just want to be sure before going ahaed and thought that this was the best place to ask!

I have a 2217 and a 2213, so am guessing the 2215 is the same set-up (ie not self-priming). I have had mine for several years, and finally found a sure-fire way of getting them up and running without any problems. Firstly, get yourself a bucket and a towel! I sit on the floor to do this. Do not plug it into the mains. Connect the bottom pipe to the green tubing, but not the top pipe. While keeping your thumb over the outlet at the top, open the 2 taps on the bottom, and then the one tap on the top. When you lift your thumb, the water should start coming into the cannister. I only release about 1/2 of my thumb to let a bit of air out at a time. Wait a little while (? 30-60 seconds). You will gradually feel suction on your thumb increase as the cannister fills. When the water reaches your thumb, close your thumb over the hole completely and get your bucket ready. Hold your bucket up, release thumb and let the water run into the bucket. There will probably be some splutering and spurting until all the air is out of the cannister. I let it run until there is absolutely no air coming out (if you plug in the filter while there is still air in the cannister it will eventually come out via the spra bars, but makes a hellish noise until it clears (sometimes overnight). Right, then close the tap at the top, re-connect the green tubing to the top section, open the 2 top taps, plug into the mains, and away she goes!

Hope this helps - let me know how you get on. Might sound complicated but easy in reality :good:
