Hello Peeps

going to order an external for my upcoming 48x15x18 odd-ball set-up

i notice that on every website i check the 2213 comes with Ehfimech and Ehfisubstrate media and the 2215 just comes with sponge media ????

i am going to go for the 2215 but i guess i should supplement / replace some of the spnges provided with a more efficent form of biological filter media? what type of media should i go for in the 2215 to maximise the bacteria load of the filter?

Also i have found a price of £56.99 and free delivery (Charterhouse Aquatics) - is that a good price? sounds good to me.

It makes me wonder why these kind of filter's (and i mean low-end eheims like 2213, 2215 and Ecco) consistently go for £35-45 on ebay PLUS delivery when you can get a brand new one AND media for not much more?????

please advise, thanks

I have the Ecco 2236 on my 125Litre tank and it came with sponges and 3 boxes of substrat pro....it was about 90quid but is well worth it imo.

The Eheim bio media is expensive, but lasts seemingly forever. This is what you will want to use to maximize bio filtration. The sponges are more of a mechanical filtration, and cheap compared to the bio media, but do need occasional replacing. If you are looking to maximize bio filtration use as much of the bio media as possible. I would start with a coarse blue sponge at the bottom to catch any larger debris, the load it up with the Ehfisubstrate.

I got my 2213 from here

cheapest i could find it and they filled it full of media for me for no extra charge... got fine filter pad , foam , carbon and sintered glass.. all present in the filter ready for me to just plug in and prime.
