for those of you in england, is there somewhere obvious to get this eggcrate stuff before i go on a hunt ? like B&Q or something ? also how thick is the stuff people are using ? you can get 15mm black stuff on ebay, ive only ever seen white used, which seems a bit silly if you can get black. i dont need loads, only a 12"x12" square.

Wickes sell something similar, in their drainage department, not sure of prices was some time back.

how can i be sure whatever i get is tanksafe ? does it need to be made from something in particular ? it will only be holding a little bit of wood or 2, and some plants and moss, no rocks or subsrate. could i get away with something thinner ? thinking about reducing the visual impact of in the tank, would be nice to use thin piping to hold it up.

im heading down to a garden centre/lfs later to try find some somewhere.

im going to be using very thin pipe to hold the 'shelf' up. i dont want big chunks of poly pipe visible in my tank, so im hoping to use a combination of suckers and careful placement of the supporting tubes to get away with only using a couple of small pipes. when i say small, i mean less than 10mm wide, like brake/fuel hose for those who get their fingers oily.

cant find this stuff anywhere locally. dont really want to use ebay, postage costs as much as the eggcrate, and i only need a 1 foot square of it.

What I used with mine was office light blinds. Same eggcrate pattern and stuff, I was having the same issue actually. Found it at Lowes, tho I'm sure most hardware type stores would sell them. Or a lighting store.

i was given some koi pond stuff today at the lfs, i said i only needed a bit, so he hunted for an offcut for me. legend. :good:

My LFS has it, might be worth a look in yours. eBay is probably the foolproof solution though.
