I live in an area which has very hard water. So far it hasn't caused any problems in my tank, but I really want to reduce it to be on the safe side. Does anyone know if the water treatment kits you can get are any good, or is there a better way of doing this?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Hi cheese_mcphee :)

There's an old saying you may have heard of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

This is especially true when it comes to aquariums. Your fish have become used to the water they are living in and have adapted. If you change it, it is apt to upset your fish. It's really best to leave it alone.

Inchworm said it all. Water chemistry is not something to mess with unless there is no other option. You can open up a whole new can of worms and it can spiral out of control before you know it! :fun:

I suppose its just a bit of a worry as the GH & KH are about 3 times the recommended level for a community tank, so I was planning to try and gradually bring it down by using the water changes to dilute the aquarium a bit.

However, I can see what you're both saying, so if you think its probably best left alone then thats good enough for me :)

Thanks for your replies! :)
