i had my new 4 gallon all nicely cycled, but then i thot, "hey, why dont i put some plants from my old 5 gallon in?" Bad idea! Ammonia stayed at the same level, but nitrite jumped to 7 ppm, and nitrate jumped to 5 ppm. :grr: now i'm gunna have to wait for the levels to go down before i can move my platys into their new home  patience has never been one of my best qualities!

are you sure that the tank was properly cycled? plants should not add to the toxin levels. what were your levels before you added the plants? plants feed off nitrates in the aquarium. faster growing plants require more nitrates than slower growing ones.

yes, i did fishless cycling on the tank. pH was at 7.4 ppm, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate were all at 0 ppm, GH was at 3 degrees dGH, KH was at 3 degrees dKH.

the plants i added were plastic, but they had alage on them

i thought the reason for the levels was the water i added, but i added the same water to my other tank, with no problems and no higher levels.

oh well, the tank has finished recycling again, and my fish are happy in their new home :)

that happened to me.......dunno why tho......i just used a nitra-zorb bag
