Hi. just found an eel in a stream. Its fresh/coldwater. just a plain old eel (new zealand). How do I keep it alive. got it in a fishtank. do I feed it meat/fish. what does it need? is it going to survive or is it better to take it back? but what can I do because there's a really little one in same stream which I'd like to keep?
thankyou for any help you can give :alien:

I took it back coz it was too big to put with my fish (not huge). but I would still like to know what to feed one because I'd like to get one of the little ones that are there (only about 15cm long). thanks again.

The only way to know would be to try out a variety of foods, or get on the web and identify what your eel is. Try stuff like bloodworms, fish meat, etc.

P.T.

My guess is it could be an Anguilla sp.
They're pretty easy to identify, and will eat a variety of invertebrates, fish etc.
