Right the very nice people that go by the name of Minion are delivering a very nice Senegal Birchir to me tomorrow.

the only bad thing is the one i'm getting is not ordinary size they come in at, it's at aorund 7inch (see pictures in picture section) i'm wondering if it would eat the normal kind of size birchir you would expect to get at around 4inch as I plan to have a few bichirs!!

It's a big tank and plenty of places to hide but I wouldn't want to doubt the hunting ability of the litle beasties!!

It is very likely that a 7 inch bichir will make a snack of a 4" bichir, really bichirs shouldnt be kept with anything under their own size unless the fish are tall bodied (Cichlids etc) or over 8 inches.

you could just put in a divider or lots of caves and i think it would be all right.

This is only personal experience but i have kept two senegaulus at 8" each with a 4" ornate birchir, but i made a point of giving the senegauls a feeder fish each every night (i use small guppy sized fish so as not to overfeed them but to curb their hunger)
Remember though my senegauls were really placid and also this is PROBABLY A ONE OFF
On a similar note i have a 10" Weeksii living with a tiny 6" spiny eel which is no thicker than a shoe lace.......I guess it depends on the birchir and your feeding routine/

I'd say you'd be safe if your smallest bichir is 2/3 the length of your largest bichir.
Its mostly the lower jaw bichirs that try eat things too large for them to eat.

I tend to overfeed so that shouldn't be too much of a probelm, and my 5x3 is pretty packed with wood and slate made into caves.

I might give it a go but I could easily fit 1 in another tank to grow it on a bit, this is all dependant on what size birchirs i find though.
