Decision made!
I'm going to go with 'Estes S-grade black Ceramaquartz'.
Whilst doing my research to try to find a source and a best option for the color I am seeking and what's best for the cories, I've found a comparison, google: "cheap black sand comparison" to see it.
This gentlemen put a lot of work into this, and for that I am exceedingly grateful!
This stuff is roughly the same size as play sand, and has rounded edges... seems like a win-win.
And for the kicker: I found a local distributor (roughly 30 minutes from my house) which sells it in 50 lb bags - ideal size for what I need, for $19.05!
It looks like the best product for my particular needs, AND the price beats EVERYTHING I've found except play sand ($4 for 50lbs) and pool filter sand ($5 for 50 lbs) that is 'cory safe'. By comparison, the petco black sand is roughly $18 for 20 lbs, eco complete is $22 for 20 lbs, etc. So, for what I am looking for, this is an ideal price!
I've heard of folks who use diamond black - sand blasting sand ($8 for 50 lbs)... but it is extremely jagged and I just didn't want to risk my cories to that sort of thing.

They offer other colors, in addition to just black... which is nice if you have a 'custom look' you are shooting for.
