I've order a big echinodorus ipica (around 40cm). I was just wondering is it true that the closer to the lights the faster the leaves will be brown or is this...

Are you growing it in or out of water?

If in water, then that is not the case. If you are growing it out of water, then the leaves can dry out and shrivel if they grow too close to the light.
