Eating Your Fish

I thnk my neons would get stuck in my teeth!

I think there are some large cichlids eaten in some parts, as well as giant gourami!

my pets, no, but i've got nothing wrong with the use of the fish species i keep or any other pet animal (dog, cat, horse, etc) as a food source.

In Florida they catch Oscars and eat them, as well as in south america. They must taste better then pellet-fed oscars though.

I wouldn't eat my pets, but i would eat oscar fish if i was given the opportunity. just not home cause our oscar gets mad when he sees us eating fish :p

Well, if I was going to eat it, I wouldn't go to the expense of setting up an whole aquarium to keep it alive. And if it died despite my efforts to keep it alive, I wouldn't feel safe eating it. So I can't really envisage a situation in which this would be at all likely to happen.

My thought exactly. Why go through all the trouble just to end it in a meal? I have nothing against going to the grocery store and buying a fish for dinner because all I have invested in it is a little money, and nothing against catching a fish to eat because all I have invested is one afternoon or morning and a little bait. But all the water changes and everything over the years it would take to grow a fish large enough to eat? And the expense of the tank? No, that meal would be too expensive. Plus, in all that time, I tend to get attached. I'd rather just continue to watch it swimming happily around in my tank. Thats just the nature of the hobby.

ive eatin my own fish, but they were in captivity for that reason.i had 10 or so perch and got em all big and fat.didnt use ANY chemicals though so i was lucky

i bet an oscar would taste nice  :hyper:

  This reminds me of when I was very little.... many many many years ago  . This didn't happen in this country ;) I vaguely remember that my mum kept a few oscars in a small tank and obviously they quickly out grew their tank. Someone told mum that Oscars were edible and mum decided to make a meal out of them     Well..... of course no one ate any of it in the end.

seems like a very expensive meal, I mean maybe I just pay to much for my fish but for the price of like 5 neons you could go to a sushi bar and have like 6 tuna cuts which would be about 30 times the amount of fish.

I think the live food for the oscars costed a lot more than the fish themselves..... Mind you, even the oscars wouldn't cost too much in those days in the Far East :D

Just different culture, isn't it? In a most countries, people still keep animals for food source. The animals would have been kept just like pets..... maybe not as pampered as we keep ours.

Thats just sick! I mean who would buy a fish from an aquatics retailer just so that they could cook it and eat it!!! Thats just wrong!!!

Sam
