I've got two "adorable" balls of fur.
Brother/sister litter mate cats. A ginger/white male called Spice, a black/white female called Smudge. They are moggies but the father (sire?) was a choc point siamese.
About 6 1/2 years old now. Both neutered/spayed at 6 months.

Problem is over the past 2-3 months Spice seems to be constantly hungry. Hungry as in "it's 2am and I'm hungry FEED ME NOW". Hungry as in "yeah, so breakfast was like an hour ago FEED ME NOW". Not just wanting food but gobbling up even the flavours he doesn't really like.

He's always been the skinnier of the two - I'm afraid Smudge is a little overweight and none too fond of exercise.

Other than this constant state of hunger he seems perfectly normal.
My first thought was worms, but they are wormed regular anyway and I just gave them a Drontal XL tablet a couple of weeks ago.
Oddly enough even though he's eating more (probably almost double) what he was eating 6 months ago, he isn't getting fat. Then again he is quite active.

They are mostly indoor cats, who go out if the weather is warm enough for me to leave the windows open for them.
I don't use a regular anti flea treatment (ie not every 6 weeks - I use spot on twice a year), but do groom regular and (touch wood) have only had fleas on them once in the past 5 years - and I swear that was from the upstairs neighbour
I do watch out for fleas as Smudge is allergic to them - poor lass (I literally had to shave her when she had them).

My next thought was diabetes? But he doesn't drink more than usual. In fact he drinks very little at all. I can't say that there is any change in how much he drinks.
Now, they are a little spoilt and are a bit picky about what food they will eat.
They have Whiska's complete kibble down all the time and have a "catit" fountain for water.
Until recently they got 1 pouch split between them morning and another pouch between them in the evening, plus tid-bits from our leftovers, etc.
But now, I'm getting demands for food at least 4 times a day.

So, any suggestions as to why Spice is suddenly starving constantly?

Mix rice wet food and cat biscuits its what we do.

Have you changed there food lately. Maybe he was always feed by some one else as well as you and now hes not?

Will give the rice mix a go :good:
Definitely not fed by anyone else. They are total scaredy-cats, only myself, hubby and my mom that can get near them.

Hi my cats (I have 2) do go through stages of this, and don't seem to gain extra weight. I always use a good wormer (like you have done. Mine usually go through the 'eating everything' phase when the weather gets cooler and almost at times stop eating when it gets hot (gets upto 45 degrees here). If you are really worried take the cat to the vet but if the cat is ok in every other way (and as the owner you usually just know somethings not right) I wouldn't worry to much. All the best :good:

Not a bad idea to get your cat in for a check up just in case. Mine too go through cycles of eating everthing in site to barely finishing their food.

In fact I have 1 on a diet (he ALWAYS hungry) and the other one is eating as much food as the fat one and keeps losing weight. The vet hasn't figured it out yet as he is perfectly healthy, all blood work excellent and no symptoms of any disease, just runs around like a mad man all day.

Sounds like it's something a lot of people experience at some time or other.
Maybe it's just a phase then.
It's time for their annual vaccs in a couple months, so I'll run things by the vet then. Not to be mean to kitty, just that he is "normal" and shows no other signs of change and "going to the vet" is really stressful for them (tried feliway - might as well have just put the money in with the kitties instead LOL).
Will keep a close eye on them in the meantime.

It could possible be early signs of hyperthyroidism. If in doubt, at least call your vet to discuss.
It's always better to be safe rather than sorry (in my experience).
