hi all,

when i do my weekly water changes i currently syphon a container full of old water out then syphon back in another container same size back in.

my thinking is to put a T piece into each inlet/outlet pipe off external filter with shut off valves so that when doing changes i can open valve to pump out old water and then suck new water back in using filter power?

i know the outlet will be ok but think the sucking back in my cause problems?

has anyone else tried this? as my thinking is if it works ok then it surley causes less stress to fish when doing water changes.

many thanks

Hi, well doing a partial water change is a good opportunity to use the siphoning action to suck up detritus (poo) from the substrate. Your idea wouldn't allow this.........

Your filter isn't powerful enough to suck water up from a bucket on the floor, so you would have to lift it up to about midway. If you have to lift it, you might as well just pour it in :)

the draining of the tank part i think would work but pumping water back in may give you issues.

I'm currently working on some sort of system based on the tubing you get with Reverse Osmosis systems, two seperate buckets, one empty one full, with the siphoning started at the same time for both, and just sit back and watch, i think if i added an auto top-up to the bucket gaining water, which would stop as it reached a certain level, this would be ideal, and its then just a case of disposing of the water
:good:
