Hi

I'm after a new external filter to replace my U3 in a Fluval 125 tank. I know I may have to cut the tank lid.

It absolutely has to be easy to clean/maintain with no drips or spillage . I recall someone mentioning a brand/model where you can just easily unclip the cannister and take it to a sink to clean/check, but can't remember the name and can't find the thread.

Any recommendations - price not an issue but ease of use is !

Many thanks

Claire

Most canister external filters are as you described

Turn off Taps, Disconnect and move to sink to clean.

Please be warned though that you should not clean your filter with untreated tap water as you will kill off your Beneficial Bacteria that live in your filter.

Just clean it with tank water.

tbh when cleaning any external filter you will get some mess of water with anything, just add a towl around it or under it and you should befine, anf as shaddex says all filters will do for what you need tetratec Eheim are two good brands and if you are in the UK maiden head aquatics do some great filters to

Lol I think you're being a bit unrealistic, do you not get any drops or spillage when doing a water change? ;)

Generally they are very similar in regards to how they need cleaned and the ease of doing so.

haha i get plenty the front of my tank is filthy from me making a mess

Loads of drops and spillage !! Which is the main reason for 'splashing' out on a new external )

Am leaning towards a jbl e900 and have seen charterhouse advertise it for £52 but out of stock. Will the price suddenly go up when they come back in stock - anyone familiar with this supplier?

Otherwise I think it's about £90

Thanks for any advice

Claire

Charterhouse are a well respected retailer, I doubt you'll have any problems with them :)

Regarding the filter, I can't find much on it or many people who sell it, makes me wonder if it's out of production :/ I can't find it's LPH listed anywhere either, you want a minimum turnover of 5 x per hour but ideally more than that. The tetratec700 is 700lph I wouldn't go any smaller than that, like I said more would be better though. Hope that helps!
