I've avoided plants for a long time. Even got rid of artificial plants there for a while because I was having a red (looking) algae problem. I have some green algae that's manageable, yet the water stats are good, so I'm not sure what's causing the algae. Seems too stuck to the tank for the algae eaters to be able to get off.

Anyway, I am thinking of adding some plants. What's pretty and easy to maintain? I have a 37 gallon tank 22 3/4" tall x 30" wide x 12" deep with the following stock and a Fluval 204 canister filter:

3 Black Skirt Tetras
2 Neon Tetras
1 Angelfish
2 algae eaters

Other info:
1) I live in Tampa, Florida. It's hot. I have never had to use a heater for this tank and it stays between 70 and 80 degrees.
2) The "algae eaters" are one "rubber lip" pleco I'd never heard of and a small otto looking, but not otto one I picked up at Walmart that we've had for a couple of months now and doesn't seem to to be getting very large since we got him. Tag said he should only get to be about 4" long.

I know that neons are the natural food of angel fish, but I've never seen our remaining angel go after the two that are in there now. He hasn't gotten very big even though he's several years old. I think the very tall castle that was in the tank for a long time stunted his growth as the tank is almost 23" tall. Should I build up the neon shoal and if so, how many should I add?

That update to the stock being in place, what plants would you recommend?

Having a pleco could tear up most plants that you put in there. I would try some sort of moss. Java moss might be a good one for you to have or some grass. I had a pleco with my amazon swords and it tore them up. I almost had to restart before I realized it was him that was taking the tole on them.

I had a long-lived pleco who I weaned off eating the plants (swords, vallis, Java fern) by treating him to a chunk of potato every now and again. RIP Colin the Catfish.
