I just bought an Earthworm factory... (Photo below)... apparently, it produces a never ending supply of worms and compost and from the tap at the bottom, you can pour an abundance of worm tea which you dilute with water (1:10) and spray your plants with it.... it has 4 levels and each level can contain up to 12,000 worms... anybody else tried this???... it is quite expensive though, but to a fisherman/gardener/fish hobbyist... I think it could be an asset?

Heard alot about this on plant forums, worm tea does certainly sound like a nice commodity, never attempted it myself though, maybe when I settle down I will.

Worm tea is certainly good for plants though, the results from hobby growers does look positive, and its technicallly free, once you have the set up and are chucking in the organic waste.

Good luck with it.

I think the principle is that as long as you chuck your kitchen wastes into the top deck, the worms will keep moving upwards and accumulate on that level... it is then that you remome your bottom tray and "reap" the harvested compost and put that one on top again...etc.etc.etc.....

The starter kit supplies 500 worms (I wonder who counted them)?... so I have a long ways to go to have 12,000 per tray, but at the rate they are escaping, I think I'm doing something wrong here.

We had one for quite a while :) It used Tiger Worms and made a stink! lol
The 'compost' they make is a liquid, and we had a hard time stopping the worms from drowning in the constant water that was left in there. It runs down on the inside of the bin and collects in the bottom which is where the tap comes in to play. I don't know if running the tap once a day and collecting it all in bottles would help more.

It was an awesome thing when i was a kid lol. My dog used to steal the bottles of 'compost' though

Actually, I put mine in the outside laundry and according to the guys who manufactures, they are designed in various colours to blend with your furniture, should you decide to keep it indoors in the house... no smell.

haha it only smelt once we opened it up :) Ours was like a large black bin that had a tap on the bottom, but we kept it outside (our house isn't that big)
