Yup, that's kind of what I figured.  Congrats on the new tank.  The peppered should be just fine in a 20Gallon long.

The ammonia was at 0, nitrates were 0, and pH was 7.4. I transferred the cory. Everything looked good this morning! I'll keep testing the water. I'm going to get 3 peppered cories tonight. He looks super lonely and will enjoy friends even if he's twice their size. If the ammonia spikes I'll do water changes. But so far so good!

Good.  Yes, they don't care about size as much as they do about numbers.  They like to see friends around them.
