Hi all. Ive got an Angel fish which has been through the wars , and sadly looks like he's on his way out. I had just cycled a new tank and after putting him in , he got "pop eye" / "cloudy eye" which was treated with Melafix and seemed to have cured him ( I treated him back in the old tank )
When he seemed ok , i put him back in the newly cycled tank , but after a couple of days he went downhill again , sitting at the bottom of the tank and only coming up for food. The new tank is cycled correctly and i have a few clown loaches living happily in there.
He then started to just lay on his side at the bottom of the tank , so i put him back in the hospital tank and started a melafix course again a couple of days ago. He is still staying at the bottom of the tank and is not coming up for food or anything - only moving if i gently tap the side of the tank. He appears to have fin rot now , as all his fins have holes in. Is there anything else i can do to save him ? Thanks in advance.

hi there what are the stats
on the tank you are keeping him/her in

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Melafix is only good on cuts and wounds.
Can you isolate the fish and use an internal bacteria med.

Hi , the tank its in at the moment is a 60 litre. Not sure about the water stats , but its a mature tank which has been okay'd at aquarium shops in last month. The fish is just spending all day laying flat on its side.

I would strongly suggest investing in some liquid test kits of your own.

Take a sample of your water to the lfs and ask them to write the readings down for you.

Angels fish need at least 20 gallon tank.

It sounds like a bacterial infection to me.
I would add some anti internal bacteria med by interpet to the tank.

Would it be ok to add the internal infection stuff and Angel to a tank with healthy fish ? Because my old tank is sold and is going to be picked up on wednesday ? I havnt got another tank or anywhere else to keep him whilst he's being treated.

You will have to if you can't isolate.
Let us all know how you get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

Im gutted , the Angel died a couple of hours ago. I went to my local aquatic shop straight after work to buy the interpet 9 for internal diseases and infections. He was out of stock but sold me something he said would do the same job. It was "Anti Ulcer" for ponds and was quite strong only needing 2 doses. I got home , put him back in the larger tank with the other fish - although segregated. Put in the initial 5ml dosage and left him. Now , he hadnt eaten for around 4 days , so i put in some live bloodworm for him , but not even they could interest him. I checked back on him half hour or so later and he was dead. Like i say i am gutted , this poor #28### has been through the mill over the two years i had him and has had everything , swimming bladder disease , pop eye , fin rot and finally this. I dont blame the man in the shop , i think i personally misdiagnosed him with his cloudy eye / pop eye and gave him melafix for a week when really it was the internal infection which needed other medication. My little boys gonna miss him , i'll have to get another one. Thanks anyway .

Sorry for your loss. I know how you feel when you lose a favourite fish.
The med could of finished him off more quickly if he was already weakened.

Bless him.
R.I.P.
