Dyed Fish?

A little off the main topic, but i saw my lfs had some harlequins that were blue/green instead of orange??
Are these likely to be dyed or have they just been labelled wrong?

There are other harlequins in the tank that are the normal orange and black, but these are blue/green and black - same shape etc to the harlequin

just to let u know white skirt tetras are the semi-albino black skirt ones there the same thing just breed different. no cost difference just coloring. (schooling fish so u need 6 or more)
By just bred different, I assume you mean that they are essentially the same fish? So if I have 3 black & 3 white... then everyone should be happy?

I will check Petco for whites.... I know there is a new one around here some wheres...

Know what really sucks? These poor fish go through this awful dying process... then the survivors are in the pet store. Some ooh & ahh.... some say, "I won't buy it! It's been tortured!" Then they seem to loose out in the end, because they are stuck at Petco or whereever with HS student who loves fish on his dinner plate... If they are bought by a loving, caring person, they are enjoyed, but die early on because of their injuries. Additionally, the practice is condoned in a way.

The poor fish are just damned if they are bought, and double damned if they aren't! It's just so unfair. :(

(I saw something at Pet's Mart declaring that they refused to sell colored fishys. :) )
It is unfair and yes they are condemned whatever you do, BUT if you buy them, the store will make money so they WILL order more. If they order more, the ******'s that dye them make more money, so they will dye more meaning more fish will be killed and others will be comdemned to the same fate.

If we all refuse to buy, the store don't sell them, they LOSE money on them, so refuse to order any more and the cycle stops!

Maybe, but if people who do know what they are buying keep buying them, they will keep dying them, for things to change we have to change them.

Don't buy them and tell the manager of any shop that stocks them that not only will you not be buying them, but you will not buy ANYTHING else from his store whilst he stocks them.

If we try to change things and fail, well at least we tried, if we sit back and do nothing or worse yet support the industry we have no right to complain or to call oursleves fishlovers.

the problem is that most shops which stock those fish are also shops that have a lot of people coming in who would put 4-5 godfish in a bowl, and so losing you may have some impact, until they realise you're probably the only 1 person who knows anything about fish. So they keep on selling to the masses

OK then, don't bother doing anything  heaven forbid it being a difficult task ;)

tbh, There is only one shop that sells dyed fish, and they were crap anyway. So I only popped in to have a look. I didn't buy anything ever and did question the fish (or the people about the fish

I don't know much about this forum as I only started a couple of weeks ago, but can't we start a forum to name and same these providers, so even those who are not that educated yet (like me) know definately where not to go!!!!!!!

It makes me  designer babies and designer fish what is the world coming to whatever happened to naturelle!!!!!

Unfortunately no due to all sorts of laws against slander etc. Like why we don't have a product review section, methinks.
