no you dont have to pay to set it up, but you do have a pay a small charge (like 50p) whenever you send money, but obviously if someone sends you money then they would pay it not you. Any money sent or received goes straight into, or out of your bank account. But all the sender/receiver knows of your details is your name and email address.

Sorry its just its safer paying through paypal, and much much easier! plus i dont have a cheque book anymore.

You can use any bank account, you can also link paypal to a debit or credit card.
