Dwarf Puffers?

So should i put one blood worm a day in, and then 2 snails on friday nights?

just look at the dp when you are feeding and only give him/her until there belly is nice and rounded, should be only 1-2 bloodworms each, 3 for adults, yeah and then 2 snails a week will do, if you have an abundance of them, you could feed them 2x a week

Ok - and would the snails be ok with no light?

So I would have a small plastic tank filled with water, gravel and a few snails to start off with ovb in a small shed in the corner.
i will get quite a few live plants, can it be any plants or..?
if you have a good recommendation to make them breed more i will do that.
is the water ok cold?

water temp shouldnt matter, use pond snails, so by nature they are coldwater anyway... or just get a selection!
as i have said before the snail breeder needs some sort of light, light=algae, and you want it to be as algae filled as you can!, can be any plants really, i think they like cambomba though, plus when you buy this from a shop, you are almost guarnenteed that it will come in with hundreds of snail eggs!

all sounds good

have fun!

hmm i dont think my lfs sell them :(

you have any spare for sell?

if they need light i will need to leave them in the back garden, im guessing this is fine if they are from a pond anyway?

You'll need far less than 1 cube of blodworm a day for 2 DPs. My 6 have roughly 1/8th of a cube per day between them.

like bigT said, i have to cut a cube in half, and sometimes even some off that gets left over! :good:

yay, so glad you are going for the DPs they really are gorgeous little guys, I added 3 more to my tank yesterday, love em to bits.

It looks like you are all sorted, great advice given :good: Mine eat about 3 bloodworm each once or twice a day, I defrost a cube in a small bowl of tank water & feed them with tweezers or hide a few in the plants for the ones which like to hunt, then the rest get covered & kept in the fridge.

I dont keep snails, I've found that they breed well in my other tanks, so once a week I grab a few & put them in with the puffers.

I don't have any in my other tanks :(

Kari - I got out them tweezers you sent me..then my puppy decided to break them :shout:

But I will just go and get another bare, damn dog

Oh well :p

Yeh, I am amazed at these everytime i see them.

I think soon enough I might try breeding them, and when I do I will just give them away so more people can experiance the :hyper:

Its a shame I can only have 2 in the 40ltr. But its better than non. Hopefully I will get one m&f, or do they liked to be kept at like 1m & 3f?

If so I will just get 2females Hopefully!

1M/1F combination works IF the two individuals get along. All down to personalities and space. They are usually more sociable when younger and often school together. There is no guarantee that 2F would work either. So just be prepared to return one or separate them if things go bad, that's all.

With snails, if you can't have a small tub on the window sill with plants, it might be easier just to leave a breeding bucket in your garden. Not sure whether snails need light but the plants definitely do.

Have fun setting up your DP tank :)

I went carbooting today and saw the perfect little snail tank they wanted £5. But because they wouldnt do £3 my dad wouldnt let me get it with my money.. urggh!

so I suppose I will get the one off ebay - I will leave it in the backgarden where it will get sunlight throughout the day :)

Hmm, Now im debating - I think I will take a trip to A5 aquatics and get two juvi's from there and if they dont get on, I will take one back and hopefully swop it. I am going to make it heavily planted and loads of hiding places apart from a kind of circle at the front where I will put the food so I can watch them

I will update you when I get anything/plan anything - Just to make sure its ok :good:

Just get a cheap water bucket or storage container and stick some elodea and snails in and leave it in your garden. No need to pay for something fancy.
